The Call of Juarez, Bound in Blood Review

by Eduard on July 4, 2009

The prequel game to the Call of Juarez is out, its called bound in blood, and it seems to be a big improvement on the earlier/later installment. The chronology always gets confusing with prequels… but the game isn’t confusing, its pretty much a lot of fun.

Though it definitely isn’t perfect, it makes for a good alternative to the standard WWII setting shooters. You play in the middle of the American Civil War, and go from Georgia to Aztec Mexico. The wild west is really well captured in the visuals, with some pretty impressive vistas, and frontier town setting as well.

The story line seems to be moving along well, and gives you a good sense of the characters. You can play as any of two of the ‘heroes’ in the game, and each has an impressive arsenal of weapons, and characteristic style, basically it’s a choice between long range shooting and up close demolition. But both can be fun, depending on when and what the situation is.

The game revolves around the standard Western themes of redemption and betrayal blah blah, so well, don’t expect to be too drawn into your character, but if you ever wanted to play in the good the bad the ugly, this might as close as you’re going to get for a while.

The game is a Xbox360 release,  almost forgot to mention! oops!
