Classic Game Room presents a CGRgameplay walkthrough for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for the Xbox 360. Released in 2009, Modern Warfare 2 gave a perfect polish to the already stellar Modern Warfare series. Also available for the PS3, Wii, and others, it is one of the top selling games of all time. The campaign revolves around 2 characters, each determined to stop a Russian attack on the United States, as well as the threat of World War 3. Featuring gameplay and commentary from CGR’s Gabe.

Why? Primarily because the players you’re going to find sitting around the table with you are totally different. They’re not going to be as strong as the players you’ll find in a real money game and they’ll tend to be much looser and aggressive too. In fact, don’t be surprised if you find a load of empty chairs beside you … sometimes, Freeroll players just don’t turn up at all!

The truth is that whether they’re bored, frustrated or just decided to do something else, a freeroll player hasn’t committed any of his money to enter the tournament and will therefore leave whenever he wants.

Having said that, it’s always a good idea to have a general idea of poker strategy – that way, you can just fine tune things slightly to get some freeroll success!

1. The golden rule – Nothing Fancy! I know pulling off a bluff against an opponent can be one of the greatest feelings in poker but it just won’t work in a Freeroll tournament. The majority of your opponents are new to the game and are only focused on their hand. In short, they’ll call pretty much anything so your elaborate bluff will just end up costing you chips. Instead, keep it simple. Play simple 1-2-3 poker and you’ll find your chip stack steadily rising.

2. If you’ve got a hand, bet it. Starting requirements for Freeroll tourneys are much lower than you’ll find elsewhere. Don’t start waiting around for Rockets or Cowboys before you make a raise. Instead, any half decent pair or an Ace with a high kicker is worth betting on. You’ll be pleasantly suprised at what your opponents turn over.

3. Play Tight. As the age old poker maxim goes, if you’re at an agressive table, play tight. Nowhere is this more true than in a freeroll tourney. People all around you will be betting the house with distinctly average hands, so show a bit of patience, and wait until you’ve got something half decent before calling them.

4. Be wary come the end. Once you’re down to just a handful of tables left, you can be sure that everyone still in the tourney is there for the duration. There’ll also be slightly better players, meaning that you might need to change your strategy a little. Your starting requirements can go up a bit and we’d suggest affording your opponents a little more respect – especially when it comes to big raises.

Playing with these four points in mind will ensure that you become a succesfull freeroll player. As you can tell, it’s all about focus and simpicity. Freeroll tournaments are a breeding ground for errors, so make sure that the errors belong to your opponents and not yourself.

After all, an error can be the ultimate difference between a paycheck and an empty bankroll.

The young apprentice went to his master and asked him: “Which is the best game man made?”. The old master though a little bit and said “It’s chess I guess, no?” “What about Go?” came the next question instantly. The master said “Aah, Go was already here!”

The master in this joke spoke of a game called Go. By assuming that the logic game of Go has been a fixture since times earlier than man-made games, the master was echoing the same sentiment as once Chess world champion, Emanuel Lasker who said that “While the Baroque rules of Chess could only have been created by humans, the rules of Go are so elegant, organic, and rigorously logical that if intelligent life forms exist elsewhere in the universe, they almost certainly play Go.” The fact that a Chess champion would have such high praise for a different game – the game of Go raises a few questions. What kind of game could earn this kind of praise? Is there an active community of Go players today?

There is an ancient Go proverb that reads “A few moments to learn, a lifetime to master.” It is true that the rules of Go are few and simple. One can play their first game after only a couple minutes of explanation. Yet the game is so profound that despite decades of effort, no individual or group has been able to program a computer player that can beat a professional Go player. The game is just too subtle and complex for a computer to play against trained human intuition. The intuitive factor lends a whole additional layer of meaning to this logic game. Current estimates place the worldwide Go playing community at just over 25 million. The game is Chinese in origin and is believed to be 4 thousand years old.

In Japan, Go is used as an enjoyable mental exerciser in the form of a logic game and as a method of training young and old alike. It has even been incorporated into therapy for those suffering from cognitive deterioration or mental illness. Anyone seeking a stimulating lifelong hobby for intellectual edification could hardly do better than Go.
