Are You Interested In Racing RC Cars?

by Owen Jones on April 22, 2011

Are you into RC cars and trucks? Have you ever tried driving one? Well, merely driving an RC car is excellent, but you do not get the full enjoyment out of the pastime until you attempt racing RC cars.

Racing RC cars is truly exciting; you will never forget the kick and pleasure of racing RC cars and trucks against other competitors. Two other good items about RC racing are that it is not expensive and anyone of any age or level of fitness can take part.

For the uninitiated RC stands for ‘radio controlled’. The competitor uses a module, like a games console, with a joystick to control the car or truck. The module or console then transmits the commands to the receiver in the vehicle and the commands are carried out almost instantaneously. The thrills and the spills are real, but nobody gets hurt.

There are several levels of technology and complexity built into these RC racing vehicles. Indeed some individuals build their vehicle themselves from scratch, whilst others buy a kit and yet others purchase a pre-constructed model. Some models are pretty fundamental while others are practically true scale models of the original full size vehicles.

People of all ages and both sexes get pleasure from racing RC cars and trucks and being disabled is not an obstacle to being a successful RC car racer. After you have purchased your first car, you are certain to become hooked on the exhilaration of the game, the camaraderie of the meetings and the friendly-natured competitiveness of the racers.

When you are just beginning and before you buy your first RC racing car, it is wise to do some investigation. Look on line and in Yellow Pages to see if there is a club or a race meeting near you. It is best if you attend a couple of these first so that you have an idea of what is obtainable and what you would like.

When you see a vehicle that you like, do not be afraid to go up to its owner and begin a conversation. RC racing car enthusiasts are a very friendly bunch and they will be more than willing to answer any queries you may have as long as you wait until the end of the race.

There is a lot to ask about. Do you want to build your own from a kit? It is not that hard if you can use a set of spanners. Do you want the vehicle to be powered by nitro, batteries or petrol?

Do you want a replica of a real, production line vehicle or a fantasy car? Do you want a car or a truck? What scale do you want? There are monster 1:5 scale replicas out there running on petrol!

There is a great deal to think about before you make your first purchase because you do not want to regret that purchase, although on the other hand, you do not want to purchase something that you cannot cope with or maintain either.

There is a learning curve when starting racing RC cars and trucks, but it can be as steep or gradual as you want, after all, it is just a hobby, well, it is to some anyway.

Some Facts About Satellite Radio Technology

by Owen Jones on April 21, 2011

Satellite radio technology is similar to cable or satellite TV and it is certainly here to stay. There are a number of reasons for this: the quality of the broadcasts is higher, the quality of the equipment’s reception is higher and the general coverage of the station, that is to say the so-called satellite’s footprint is much greater too.

This has the effect that if you travel long distances, you will be able to stay with the same channel without having to look for a new one every forty or fifty miles as you need to do with AM or FM radio stations.

In order to reach this quality, the recording and playback speed has to be around the 384 kbps level. The music tracks are catalogued in a comparable way to the MP3 system, which uses names called ID3 tags.

Each station on satellite radio endevours to create its own identity. A music station might try this by playing music only of one sort or from only one era or decade. This means that you may get a satellite radio station called 1970′s Punk music or Twentieth Century Classical Music.

On some stations, the music controller or disc jockey will choose, say, fifty minutes worth of music, will listen to it in order to ascertain that the quality and the order are correct and then let the computer play it over the airwaves. This allows ten minutes every hour for the news and then the programme can be repeated automatically.

Satellite broadcasting uses digital recordings and each channel is encoded on a different frequency. Similarly, each decoder, say, in your car or your home needs to recognize and decode each channel separately as well. This coding and decoding is done very quickly, in fact in what is called ‘real time’.

The resulting binary or digital code is then translated into analogue signals so that your speakers can reproduce it. This process creates sound which is just about of CD quality.

The transmitting satellites are in a geo-stationary orbit at 23,000 miles above the Earth and have a large footprint which is the name given to the area of ground that is capable of receiving their transmissions.

In America, for example, the two fields concentrated on at first were the densely populated east and west coasts in order to maximize possible income. One satellite would be incapable of covering the whole of the United States in that orbit.

In order to receive satellite transmissions, you will have to use a special antenna on your decoder. This antenna must be capable of picking up L-band transmissions for it to be of use.

These new antennas are a huge improvement on the satellite dishes (comparable to those used for satellite TV) that one used to have to have in order to take advantage of satellite radio technology

Calendar – Which Calendar?

by Owen Jones on April 21, 2011

In the West, we tend to think that there is only one calendar, but there are dozens of them around the world. And what is more, there were probably hundreds of them before. All non-operational now either because ours is more precise or because theirs did not fit in with our business way of life.

But that does not mean to say that people do not still use those old-fashioned, redundant calendars. Oh, no! Governments have given up their old, traditional national calendars, but in general, country folk still refer to them, even if they can no longer get hold of a printed version. I cannot go into all the calendars here, but I will mention five or six of them.

Lunar Calendar – There is some evidence that early man used chips on bone to track or denote the movement of time 25,000 years ago, probably measured by the Moon’s phases. A calendar can be created based on the lunar cycles; it produces a year of twelve months (the word ‘month’ is from the word ‘moon’), but only 354 days, that is, eleven short of the time it takes the Earth to revolve around the Sun. The Chinese still use a variety of the lunar calendar but they resolve this issue by adding extra moths every now and then to bring ‘time’ back into alignment with the Sun.

Solar Calendar – The ancient Egyptians were the first people to employ a Solar Calendar, although it could justifiably be called a stellar calendar. The new year began for them when Sirius, the Dog Star, the brightest star in the night sky, rose in the same place as the Sun. This more often than not coincided with the flooding of the Nile. This calendar was of 365 days; twelve months of thirty days and five holy days. Therefore, it was only one quarter of a day off the true year. However, this meant that slowly but surely, the new year did not concur with the flood. Scientists have worked out that this calendar was adopted in either 4241 BC or 2773 BC.

Julian Calendar – In 46 BC , Julius Caesar realized that various provinces of the empire were using different calendars, so he instructed the dating system to be unified. Sosigenes came up with a calendar of 365 days with an extra day every four years. Therefore, in 46 BC, the longest year on record, Caesar added days to the year to bring it back into alignment with the seasons. 46 BC was 445 days long! The vastness of the Roman Empire ensured that this calendar was the defacto calendar of the Western world.

Julian Day Count – In 1582, Pope Gregory XIII instituted a new calendar, but the year after that Joseph Justus Scaliger developed a system of counting days, not years. It starts with 1 on January 1st 4713 BC. On this date the Julian and the lunar calendars and the Roman tax dating system all coincided; something that will next happen in 3267. January 1st 2001 was Julian day 2,451,913

Gregorian Calendar – from at least 730 AD, it was noticed that the year from vernal equinox to vernal equinox was short of the 365.25 days in a year. This had the consequence that the date of Easter was moving back. So he dropped 10 days from 1582 by jumping from October 4th to October 15th and proclaiming that century years would only be leap years if they were divisible by 400. Consequently, 1900 was not a leap year, but 2000 was. This is the calendar we still use today.

Classic Presents For Teenagers

by Owen Jones on April 21, 2011

Buying gifts for teenagers can get very difficult, particularly if you do not know teenagers very well. The problem with teenagers is that some are more grown up than others and if you do not know the person very well, you do not know whether to tend towards the adult or the child. However, you can always purchase a ‘little bit older’ knowing that if you have not judged the mental age correctly, then they will mentally grow into the gift.

There are a couple of classic gifts that teenagers feel are not too young for them, presents that make them feel grown up. These gifts are not in any particular order.

A watch is always practical – a small dainty watch for a girl and a big chunky thing for a boy. It does not matter whether it is wind-up, automatic or battery and it does not have to be one of the very costly names, but it is better if it is pretty famous like a Seiko.

A chain, necklace or bracelet of precious metal will be appreciated by any teen, but especially by girls. Nine carat gold or silver is not that expensive, but it will hold its value. A St Christopher can make a good present for someone who is religious or not.

Teenagers like clothing and shoes, but it is best to bear the clothing on the casual side. Like tennis shoes instead of shoes or a T-shirt rather than a shirt with a collar, a hoodie rather than a jacket. A leather belt is also worth bearing in mind.

Sunglasses are mostly appreciated, but it is vital to get the style right. Ask the parents of the teenager which designer label the teenager prefers.

Music is a classic present for a teenager, but there is such a choice of media to play it on these days. Maybe a gift voucher from a big high street record shop that also has an on line presence is best. That way, they can either buy a CD or download the music from the Net onto their MP3 player.

An atmospheric lamp can be a good idea if the teenager spends a lot of time in his or her room. Lava lamps and optic fibre lamps are just the ticket.

Something for the computer. Most teens have a computer, so you could get a web cam, a wireless mouse or a wireless keyboard. Or a new computer game. If the teen has a laptop, they might appreciate a new laptop case or carrying bag. Laptops do come with a carrying bag, but they take quite a bashing and soon become frayed and scruffy.

A good quality pen. Not a lot of people use fountain pens nowadays, but they are still a good present. It might encourage the teen to tidy up his or her handwriting otherwise a well-known-name biro, but it is certainly not the same as a classic fountain pen and a bottle of ink. You could add a blotter to this little package too as no-one appears to have one any more.

A Look At An Overview Of Pro Football Picks

by Michelle Wright on April 21, 2011

The vast expansion of the internet, has promoted a sharp increase in the popularity of virtual sports and games in recent years. First invented in 1988 by David McNamara and Gary Chiappetta, fantasy football is played globally, and therefore, transcends all boundaries. There are a number different types of leagues in which a participant can engage. The following paragraphs offer some further information regarding the various types of pro football picks on offer.

Players who engage in fantasy football get the chance to act as the manager of any given virtual football team. The participant can select players from a team of professional footballers. Fantasy leagues offer an individual the opportunity to engage in an interactive virtual competition.

Players of the game are allowed to perform a variety of actions which may include dropping or adding team members, trading, drafting and changing rosters. There are many forms of fantasy league for players to choose from, however, two of the most popular are head to head and total points leagues.

As the name suggests, the head to head league involves different opposing teams playing against each other every week. Weekly matches are won by the team who obtains the most points during the game. The teams with the best win record, that is, who have won the most games, are then able to progress to the playoffs.

Participants in the total points league will accrue points on an on-going basis. The teams that accumulate the highest number of points throughout the duration of the matches will therefore, advance to the playoffs. Which is in contrast to the head to head game, where the win or loss records decide who will qualify for the playoff.

In order to play in the dynasty league, players will retain many of the same virtual footballers throughout the duration of the games. The manager can therefore, select the team that he wants over time. Some players believe that to play in this way encourages a sense of team spirit.

Salary cap leagues operate in quite a different way, in that each player has a salary. The amount of money spent on a player and the team as a whole, has a maximum limit. Therefore, players can be withdrawn once their maximum salary has been reached. Hence, the term ‘Salary Cap Leagues.’

Pro football picks offer a number of leagues for the player to engage in, which include total points, dynasty, head to head and salary cap. The internet offers a spectrum of opportunities to engage in play, and various leagues are also available.

Looking for the best expert football picks, then take a visit to our site where we offer the best pro football picks and much more to ensure you stay on the winning side this season.

Online Casinos – 7 Surefire Techniques to Finding the Best Casinos Online

by Graham Gardner on April 21, 2011

When you play in the best online casinos, you will have a wonderful time, not to mention the chance to win money. But before you land on the best, you have to know how to find them, which may come as a bigger challenge than actually playing.

You have to note that there are many casinos that are not considered the best, so you have to be keen in differentiating the ones that have potential from others. To help you determine the best online casinos, follow the seven tips that are listed below:

1. Search for unbiased casino reviews. There are lots of online casino reviews out on the internet that present all the cons of certain online casinos, then instantly present all the good things about another casino. As much as possible, do not use these reviews as reference and look for write ups that do not sound too biased. In other words, the best reviews to believe are those that give you an honest overview of a certain casino without the obvious aim of selling it to you.

The problem of most reviews is that they are paid by a certain casino to advertise them to the readers. You should avoid these as much as possible in order to make sure that you will only be getting unbiased comments and feedback.

2. Watch out for credibility. Do you know that even online casinos need to get permits first before they can finally start business operations? In looking for the best online casinos, look for the seal or logo that is usually displayed on their homepage because this is the proof that the casino is operating within the regulatory boundaries of the body that manages them. One example of a particular body and seal that you can trust is the eCogra which is a non-profit and independent organization that manages the online gaming industry as well as protecting the players’ rights.

3. See their history as an online casino. Have they been in the market for long, or are they just starting out? The longevity of their business is proof that they have established the trust of their players and that they know how to compete with best online casinos.

4. Take note of the jackpot. Different casinos have different methods of computing the jackpot price they offer so if you as a player thinks that their computation method does not with their offered winnings then its time to move on and look for another gaming website. You will only get engaged in a lose-lose situation if you bet but only lose some of your winnings to the gaming system.

5. Research on the software that operates the casino. Always remember that the software used is what operates the online games. Without these programs, the online casinos will not be able to work so they are highly important. This reason is also the one that makes it important for you as a player to check out the software because if ever something happens to your game, it is highly due to a software glitch.

6. Check the system. The audited payout should be transparent so that any player can easily look at the details of the game. One credible auditor is the Technical Systems Testing (TST), a testing facility that takes care of auditing by means of random number generator and evaluation concepts, which makes sure that all processes are certified correct by complying with the standards that the online casino agreed upon its licensure; hence all certifications that are issued by TST are considered valid and acceptable by software suppliers, operators, players and licensors.

7. Get to know the casino. Do not be afraid in mingling with players and asking customer representatives on the online casino. Doing these is the best way for you to know the circulation of the casino you’ve been eyeing. With this, you can be sure that you investment is properly handled and that your money is secured.

Now that you know some of the ways to help you dig out the best online casinos, what is left is for you to try them out and see for yourself how much you can win. Just make sure to make proper bets so that you will earn the value of your money in the process.

What Toys Do You Need For Day Care?

by Owen Jones on April 21, 2011

If you are going to be looking after children either your own or other people’s, you will naturally need some apparatus. Your training will have taught you what you are required to have by law, items such as safety apparatus, cots, high-chairs and strollers, but you will also need some toys. Which ones though, there are so such a lot and they are not cheap either?

Well, the first thing to consider is the age range of the children that you will have under your care. I am sure that your training will have already taught you that babies have different requirements from toddlers and so on up the age scale. Babies cannot move about (or not much) so they have to have their playthings close at hand.

Having said that, babies are not even very dexterous with their hands. They only seem to want to stuff things into their mouths with them, so the safest options for babies are visually and aurally stimulating toys that will neither choke nor poison them. Twirling mobiles, colourful rattles, an attractive blanket, wallpaper with images of animals like Beatrix Potters menagerie of rabbits, foxes and ducks.

It is probably better if you do not provide any toys that are going to be sucked and then passed around other kids for fear of cross-infection. Let their parents provide the babies’ own cuddly toys and teddy bears et cetera. You may like to advise parents not to purchase babies’ toys which come apart easily or have buttons or loose eyes because of the danger of choking.

In the next age bracket, the struggling toddler, kids are beginning to become curious and are ‘into everything’. They still want to put everything in their mouths though, so the same warnings apply as before, but the toys can and should be more challenging. Books with a thin storyline and big pictures are pretty useful as are fish tanks that are safely out of reach. Children love to watch a busy fish tank and it is better than TV.

Building blocks and even the babies’ variety of Lego can be introduced at this age although the toddlers are still a little young for them. Toddlers will begin to become attached to favourite toys and want to carry them around with them at this age, so soft balls, dolls, rattles, and educational toys appropriate to the age group are apposite.

After approximately eighteen months, educational toys like blocks and Lego (or Duplo) are even more essential, so are books, but children of this age like to bang things and create a noise as well. A plinky-plonky instrument like a toy xylophone or a plastic piano are useful for satisfying these needs.

After about two years of age, children start to play with other children and Wendy Houses and toy tea sets are good for encouraging this. They will also like to move about and drive toy cars and tricycles. Children should be encouraged to play in a safe outdoor environment now too, if the weather is appropriate. Low-level swings and slides are fun as is a sand pit, if you can keep the local cats from using it as a public lavatory.

Getting The Most From Golf Lessons

by Owen Jones on April 21, 2011

It is never easy asking for help, but in golf, it is almost a necessity. More’s the pity, we often ask our buddies and partners, when, in reality we should take a few lessons with a professional, usually called the Club Pro.

We may possibly think that a Pro would criticize us too harshly, but in fact, they are honest, positive and usually very helpful.

Lessons at the local golf course aren’t as expensive as you might think and they are worth it because your game will improve more rapidly and cause you less frustration, making the game much more enjoyable for you.

It is of utmost importance to be absolutely honest about your game. The Pro will enquire of you what you think you need to learn: driving, chipping, putting or whatever you feel you need help with.

Listen to the Pro golfer very carefully and follow the Pro’s advice. You may have concerns if the Pro alters your stance, your grip or your swing, but honestly, the Pro does know what is best.

Don’t hesitate to ask the Pro golfer any questions. Don’t worry about whether your question or concern may sound stupid – they’ve heard it all before and will not make you feel like a fool for asking. If you don’t get it, tell him/her that you do not get it. You should never walk away from a lesson with unanswered questions.

For example, a course of lessons might be to start with one thing during a lesson, or on several things. You might start with a lesson on driving; get the grip, the stance, the swing and the follow-through right in one lesson and then practice it ‘for real’ for a few weeks until you feel that you’ve got it more or less right. Next time, you might decide to work on your short game, or putting.

You’ve invested in the golfing equipment and it isn’t cheap, is it? So, it doesn’t make sense not to learn how to use it to it’s best advantage and improve your abilities, does it?

If you are interested in learning more about golf for novices, visit our website on Golfing Tips for Novices for tons of free tips.

NFL Lines Increase Fan Interest

by Michelle Wright on April 20, 2011

There is little doubt that an awareness of the NFL lines is common among all levels of football fans. Football has grown in popularity to the point where gamblers and average fans alike use the odds as part of how they follow the game. A look at the different uses and application of weekly point spreads might serve as a guide of sorts.

Many professional bettors will wait until it is closer to game time before placing a bet on a given team. One reason identified for this patient approach is based on information gathering. There is a large group of gambles that like to wait for ongoing team and player activities to be reported to the various news outlets. A player suspension or injury, for example, may help determine a bettor’s decision.

Many other bettors show a more patient approach when it comes to making use of available information. There is a lot of analysis available to sift through and slowly arrive at a conclusion. Those who enjoy picking through the different suggestions will make bets a little closer to game time.

Some bettors take a different approach altogether. They choose to bet as soon as the odds are established. The reasoning is that they want to be certain to lock in any perceived advantage before that advantage disappears. If the gambler’s early analysis suggests that their is an opportunity, he or she will want to act on it as soon as possible.

If there are large swings in the point spreads, some bettors will bet right after the lines are established and again closer to game time. This is not a very common occurrence, but when a point spread changes drastically after a bet is placed, it does present an opportunity to possibly win double by betting on both teams.

Being aware of the odds is not just an activity for the professional and amateur gamblers either. So many fans are keenly aware of point spreads just as a matter of interest. Just about every sports media source devotes coverage to predictions which revolve around predicting outcomes. Countless fans weave this kind of information into personal discussions about teams and games.

As one can see, NFL lines enter into activity in a number of ways. Some people study the odds in order to make informed betting decisions, while others peruse them as part of following the sport. What is certain is that point spreads are here to stay.

Using Coupon Codes

by Owen Jones on April 20, 2011

Toys R Us is one of the largest retailers of toys in the world. It is also one of the most imitated names in the world. There businesses all over the place with names like ‘Carpets R Us’, ‘Taxis R Us’ et cetera, et cetera. Toys R Us also has quite an extraordinary Internet presence.

This equals that millions of people are searching for Toys R Us coupon codes, particularly at Christmas. Money-off coupons for Toys R Us can save lots of money on modern toys too as traditional toys such as dolls’ prams, dolls’ houses, rocking horses, board games and dolls.

Coupon codes are a set of numbers and letters, which when entered at the checkout will reduce the price of the item that you are buying or entitle you to a bonus with that item. They can be entered at physical and Web checkout points of sale.in precisely the same way. There are a number of benefits associated with coupon codes, some of which we will discuss later in this article.

The first and most evident advantage of using coupons is the discounts that they offer. A Toys R Us coupon could give a fixed discount, maybe $5, a percentage discount as in 5%, or a bonus, as in a free outfit with each Barbie doll or three outfits for the cost of two.

If you are shopping on the Net, the added value may be in the form of free delivery, although that may be only within a fixed geographical zone such as mainland United States.

Convenience can be a big consideration. If you do not know what toy to buy for a child and you have a fixed amount to spend and you have a discount coupon for a fitting toy, then that can make your mind up for you.

For instance, if you were going to purchase a board game, and there is a 10% discount on Monopoly, why not buy Monopoly? It saves having to think about whether to purchase Risk, Monopoly or Cleudo, does it not?

On line shoppers often get pretty limited issue coupon codes as a loyalty bonus or to encourage them to come back and buy something again. These personalized coupon codes are frequently quite generous, but might be quite specific.

For example. if you purchased a Barbie on line a few months ago, Toys R Us may send you a coupon code for Barbie clothing three or four weeks before Christmas. This type of coupon is usually sent out by email.

All in all, Toys R Us coupon codes, like any other coupons, are helpful, if you would like the device they are discounting or can find a use for it. They are particularly useful at Christmas, when people have to buy several gifts.

However, you should not let coupons from any company persuade you to purchase and do not hold your breath waiting for a coupon off any item that is in huge demand, money-off coupons are usually reserved for items that are not selling too well or are last year’s hot seller.
