Fishing Equipment

by Owen Jones on April 23, 2011

Fishing equipment is called fishing tackle by specialists and hobbyists and it usually refers to rods, lines, hooks, sinkers, spears, lures, bait, reels, nets, and et cetera. The fishing gear that is attached at the end of a line is called terminal tackle

The word tackle referring to fishing equipment comes from ‘takel’ which initially meant the rigging of a ship, that is, the gear consisting of ropes supporting a ship’s masts and sails. Later, the same word was recorded to have a another meaning, that of apparatus for fishing and that meaning has been preserved ever since.

The most rudimentary fishing apparatus is made up of of a rod, a line, a hook, a lure, a bait and a weight or sinker. The line is a simple string specially made for fishing that is both long, strong and yet thin, so that fish do not notice it. There are various questions that an angler asks when buying a fishing line, like its resistance, stretch, strength and so on. The line will be chosen depending on what species of fish the angler intends to catch.

The sinker or weight, also referred to as a plummet, is really only a weight that helps in casting the hook and the bait as far as possible from the shoreline or from the boat that the fisherman is using. They are usually made of lead because it is cheap and easy to melt at home. However, lead sinkers have been banned in some parts of the world, especially the very small ones, which are often called ‘shot’. If ingested by birds or other fish, the lead, which is well-known to be poisonous, will cause the death of that animal.

Another elementary piece of fishing gear is the hook. This device meant for holding the bait on the line and for hooking into the fish’s mouth. It is tied to the line and the angler can choose from a pretty variety of shapes and sizes.

And last but far from least, is the bait or lure, without which the fishing equipment cannot be effective. A lure is a device attached at the end of the line that looks and moves something like the prey of the fish you are after. Its purpose is to catch the attention of the fish with its colour and vibrations. Artificial flies, tiddlers and sand eels come into into this category. When the fish bites the lure, it gets hooked.

Bait, on the other hand, is the item actually attached to the hook. Bait is often of two types: animal or foodstuff. ‘Animal’ refers to small fish or other water creatures, insects or crawlers. ‘Foodstuff’ refers to grains, like corn, bread or whatever the angler believes might work.

5 Pieces Of Texas Holdem Advice That Will Take Your Game From Intermediate Level To Rockstar Pro

by Alex Bannon on April 23, 2011

The Texas Holdem advice I’m about to share with you is aimed at intermediate players. It involves profitable tactics designed to dominate the competition. Read this article now to learn how to take your game to the next level

Players who have laid the groundwork for their Holdem strategy may try learning the more intricate poker concepts. These strategies are designed to educate a regular poker player to become one that constantly wins. This article will teach you the techniques you need to be using to make poker playing a revenue generator

Texas Holdem Advice On Mastering Intermediate Tactics

#1 Getting and Maintaining Pot Control

The best way to make revenue at Holdem is to establish and maintain a certain level of control on the pot. Learn to control the pot and set the pace of a Holdem hand. The main ways of doing this are by using aggression, raises and isolating raises.

When you bet out aggressively you control the pot. It’s like setting an entrance fee. Players that aren’t confident will fold and your competition is seriously reduced.

#2 The Semi Bluff

Players are often led to believe that bluffing is necessary in poker. This is only half true. Learn to semi-bluff or how to lead other players into thinking you have the best hand. Semi bluffing involves making the other players think you have a hand while you are drawing closer to being a potential winner in the game.

Popular hands to semi bluff are middle suited connectors, suited cards, gappers and more rarely pocket pairs that have missed the flop.

#3 Blind Stealing

Stealing blinds is practically required to survive in today’s cut throat games. Knowing how and when to steal blinds, as well how to counter should someone do the same to you. Also have a backup plan in case your steal doesn’t work.

The best amount to bet is about 120% – 140% of your standard pre-flop raise. This will show the strength you need to pressure you opponents into folding.

Texas Holdem Advice On Taking It To The Advanced Level

The following advice is for when you want to really take things to the next level. Make sure you are successfully using the first techniques described above before starting to try these.

#4 Think like a pro

You need to always adjust your playing skills to match whoever it is you are playing against. Think like a pro when playing poker with the pros.

Advanced play is considerably different to normal play and requires a different way of looking at things. Beginner play won’t work here. Funnily enough advanced play doesn’t really work on beginners either. So once you move up to more serious play you definitely need to start playing more serious.

A classic example of this is bluffing. Bluffing against advanced players can be very effective but bluffing against new players almost never works because they aren’t smart enough to know any better.

#5 Managing your Poker Bankroll

You need to learn and follow the guides to manage your poker bankroll. Discuss and avoid common bankroll mistakes and get tips to improve your bankroll management skills. this will ensure you have enough money to continue making money.

The worst thing that can happen to a poker player is to run out of bankroll because this restricts your ability to make any more money. Always make sure you have enough money to continue and if you are on a losing streak consider going to lover stakes to build it up again with less risk.

This is the Texas Holdem Advice that either makes or breaks a player. This information, and its practical implementation, it what sets the winners and losers apart. If you aren’t making the money you would like to from Holdem, it’s because you haven’t mastered these points properly.

Cooking: Five Top Tips

by Owen Jones on April 23, 2011

There can not be many individuals who do not enjoy their food, but the human race, being what it is, I expect that there are a a small number of them. However, for the remainder of us, food is a font of every day delight and, like drink, it is often employed to denote a happy event. not only that, but various foodstuffs are served for the various meals or distinct celebrations. Festive meals were undoubtedly considered around the seasonal foods available, but a number of foodstuffs were transported great distances for the consumption of those who could pay for them.

For instance, my Dad deemed it a grand luxury to be given an orange in his stocking on Christmas Day sixty years ago. How the times have changed! Very few kids would deem an orange a present, special or otherwise, any day of the year these days.

Nevertheless, the storage of foodstuff is still a daily affair and therefore, I have written a couple of top guidelines on preserving food below, so that you will obtain the best from that which you have bought or grown in your garden even a long period afterward.

Chicken Stuffed With Spoons: a great way of preparing chicken to be eaten at a cold buffet or in sandwiches, is to put as many spoons as possible into the cavity of the chicken (not silver or plated ones though). Then, place the chicken in a large saucepan or pot and bring the water to the boil slowly. Simmer for 10 minutes, cover and leave until the water is room temperature. The spoons will retain the heat and cook the chicken from the inside out. it will be one of the most succulent chickens you have ever eaten.

Roasted Crisp And Light: if you like crisp-skinned roasties, it is best to parboil them first, but that is only half the story. so, boil the potatoes for five minutes and drain thoroughly. Put the lid on the pan and shake it about violently. Bang it hard on the chopping block several times. The harder the better. Then put the parboiled potatoes in the baking tray with the meat or fowl to cook as you would normally.

Salad Soup: Do not throw away salad that has been soaked in salad dressing. Whisk it up in a food processor with a can of tomatoes of tinned soup. Add lots of garlic to taste and adjust the thickness to suit your taste. Chill it down and you will have one of the most delicious summer soups ever.

Curdling Cure: if your mayonnaise has curdled there is one sure fire way to bring it back to life. stir in a couple of tablespoons of Hellmann’s mayonnaise and your problem will be over.

Simply Scrumptious Topping: a really, quick, delicious and almost infinitely variable topping for a savory pie can be made in seconds. Choose the flavour you want from the crisp rack; puncture the bag to let our the air and then crush the contents in the gag. it really adds something to a pie. The same trick can be used on the bottom of a potato pie a Texan housewife told me.

Luxury Sea Cruises

by Owen Jones on April 23, 2011

Vacationing on a cruise liner is rightly considered to be elite and luxurious. It is certainly the best kind of vacation that I have ever had. The luxury far surpasses staying in a five star hotel. On the other hand, it is like an elite all inclusive holiday, because once on board, all the entertainment and all your food is free. Alcoholic drinks must be paid for, but then they are duty free.

If you have never been on a cruise before you really must try it. I would not recommend it as a family vacation, but I have seen families on cruises. Cruising might suit a family with older children or you might find a cruise which is planned with children in mind. However, in my experience, your average cruiser is over 50 and married.

I know that they do 18-30 cruises and all kinds of themed cruises, but if you just go on a normal cruise, most of your fellow passengers will be older. Many of them are commemorating something too – retirement, Golden Wedding Anniversary, 70th birthday, that sort of thing. These people want a peaceful time and do not really want children running around and jumping in and out of the pool. Dinner can be late and the evening’s entertainment is not child orientated either. If you want to take children, look for a specialty cruise.

A cruise is relaxing and all about pampering. Luxury and pampering and world class food. I put on five pounds on a two week cruise and friends said that was abnormally little! I will tell you about the food on my last cruise.

Breakfast lasted from 7 AM to 10 AM and there was a buffet with food from all around the world: fruit, porridge, toast, bacon and eggs, ham, cornflakes and all the variations, sausages, rice, Chinese food, prawns, fish and more. Elevenses started at 11 AM and had tea, coffee, cakes and biscuits, help yourself.

Lunch was a two hour affair starting at 1PM consisting of four courses. There was a choice of set plans, but if you wanted to mix and match you could – I think the plans were only to make it easier for the elderly to make up their minds. With 1,200 people to give food to in two sittings, the waiters try to speed selection up in very subtle ways, but never outwardly. High tea was from 4 to 4:30PM: tea, coffee, cakes, biscuits and sandwiches.

Dinner was at 6:30PM and was a five course meal in the same vein as lunch and at midnight there was a barbecue on deck until 2AM. Everything that was served was first class and there was no restriction at all on how much you could eat.

Entertainment was after dinner and there were two shows to match the two dinner sittings, but you could sit there for both shows if you liked. There was a different show every night varying from solo artistes to bands. There were theater plays and musical shows, it was very majestic. There was also a piano bar playing jazz and a disco every night

I would recommend a cruise to anyone, but it is a good idea to check what sort of cruise you are booking as some are themed and if you do not like the cruise’s theme, you may not get the full enjoyment out of it.

Rooney comes under fire from Woodward

by Ben Williams on April 22, 2011

Wayne Rooney and widespread criticism are two phrases that often go hand in hand. The fact remains, however, that even though some try to defend the Manchester United defender, he does more often than not deserve the criticism as a result of his poor behaviour on and off the field of play.

Rooney’s latest escapades came in a Saturday afternoon league game against West Ham, with the striker left to deal with repercussions inflicted by the FA after he swore into a TV camera while celebrating a goal. With Rooney surely well aware that Saturday afternoon games always attract relatively younger viewers who look up to Rooney as an inspiration and man to idolise, the violence and intense anger in his reaction was to many simply unacceptable.

That said, Sir Clive Woodward is just one man who has been unafraid to come out and criticise the striker in public, with the former England rugby coach stating that iconic players in the public eye have a duty to behave with a level of respect and modesty that in Rooney seems simply absent.

Woodward also appeared to question the role of Sir Alex Ferguson in the whole scenario, the former England rugby coach revealing that part of the job of being a coach is to train players how “to handle pressure moments”. Woodward also hinted that Manchester United as a club would have been within their rights to ban a player for acting in such a way without having to wait for FA involvement.

With Woodward leading the English rugby side to World Cup success in Australia during his career as a coach, perhaps his opinions shouldn’t be ignored out of hand, especially given England’s failure to perform in recent World Cups. Rooney in particular has failed spectacularly to light up the international stage in international tournaments, so perhaps his attitude is at least partly to blame for this.

Whether Fabio Capello or Sir Alex Ferguson take any notice of Woodward is another matter entirely, but something has to change where the United striker is concerned, and fast.

Effective Ways To Start Blogging

by Owen Jones on April 22, 2011

Everybody has something to say and most people are passionate about something that they would like to talk about. Some people want to take this desire to talk a couple of stages further – they would like to tell the world about it. That was impossible less that twenty years ago, unless you managed to be on TV or were syndicated in the world’s press. Now, naturally, anyone can do it.

The Net makes it possible for everybody to have their say. The young and the old, the rich and the poor can discuss what they like on the Internet. You can use a web site as your soap box or you could use a specialized website called a blog. If you cannot have your own web site for any reason, you could open a free blog at one of the many web sites that offer free blogs.

The word ‘blog’ is short for ‘web log’ and adding an piece to your blog is called blogging. Blogs have become a very effective means of spreading one’s point of view. The latest form of blogging is micro-blogging, which is the generic description for Twitter.

Blogging has been used successfully by inhabitants of countries where the provision of human rights is not a government priority. Only recently, dissidents in Iran, Iraq and Myanmar have kept the world up-to-date on repression in their countries through blogs. The blogs were frequently reprinted in the world press and reported on the International news.

If you would like to blog for free, search Google for ‘free blogs’ and take a look around. There are dozens of free blog sites about and they all offer different functions. Blogger by Google is one of the better ones, but there really are loads of different types of free blogs.

One thought is whether you would like your blog to be open or closed. That is, do you want anyone to be able to read it or do you want only a closed user group (CUG), which could be your friends, your family or your colleagues.

It should not take longer that thirty minutes to set up your blog. Some providers like to approve new blogs, but others do not. You could be blogging within the hour, so compose an piece welcoming people to your blog and post it to the blog. Make it ‘sticky’ if you can, so that it is always the first post that visitors read when they arrive at your blog.

Make your posts educational and endeavor to keep them topical. They should neither be so short that it is not worth coming to read them nor so long that they become boring – 400 to 500 is believed to be about correct.

You will need to promote your blog or no-one will know that it is there. Do this by posting your pieces (with your blog address attached) to a few article directories. It is free and will give your blog a real boost in circulation. You can give up doing this when your blog is self-sustaining.

Allow all visitors to leave comments on the blog, because it encourages them to come back, but check frequently for spam comments and delete them because a blog full of spam looks neglected.

Campbell knee operation to rule him out next season

by Ben Williams on April 22, 2011

Sunderland have been handed more than their fair share of injury blows and general setbacks since the start of the 2010/2011 Premier League season, but the latest piece of injury news to come their way is perhaps the most alarming and disappointing of them all.

Steve Bruce, the man who has done well to lead his team through the trials and tribulations of the tricky league season despite all of their high-profile and extremely unfortunate injury problems, has been told that talented frontman Fraizer Campbell may have to sit out the majority of next season as he attempts to make a full recovery from a knee operation scheduled for this week.

Campbell, who signed for Sunderland nearly two years ago, became an instant fans’ favourite upon arrival at Sunderland, the forward moving from Manchester United in the summer of 2009, but damaged his cruciate ligament in August of last year and has found it impossible to make a full recovery ever since, with a twisted knee further hindering his attempt to make a successful return to the first team in early April.

Campbell should still have a bright future in the game, even if he is forced to miss most of the action next season in the league, with the Sunderland man still only 23 years of age and already well on his way to proving his quality at the top level after scoring seven goals for the Black Cats.

However, that said, the question now must be asked as to how the Sunderland manager will inspire his squad throughout the rest of the campaign, with the club’s injury list now a truly depressing sight. With Danny Welbeck, an on loan striker from Manchester United, suffering badly from a hamstring injury, and with crucial defender Titus Bramble informed that he won’t be able to return to the first team before the current season ends, these are surely troubling times indeed for Sunderland fans.

Sunderland fans will still trust a man who has done very well with the club but Bruce will certainly be feeling the heat, there’s no doubt about that.

Qualifying For The Daytona 500

by Owen Jones on April 22, 2011

The Daytona 500 is financially the largest stock car racing event on the NASCAR racing calendar and it is also distinctive for the fashion that contenders have to qualify for a starting position in it.

The Daytona 500?s unique qualifying process was planned by the pioneer of NASCAR, Bill France, who also wrote most of the other rules and regulations governing the sport today. He had two main motivations for altering the rules for the Daytona 500:

firstly, to increase income from the race because the site for the Daytona 500 is so expensive and secondly, to better prepare the drivers by making them have to qualify under racing conditions.

Bill France resolved to follow the standard set by other, shorter Daytona tracks, rather than use standard NASCAR qualifying two laps. He also decided to allow soft-tops and hardtops to take part in the Daytona 500 by putting them through a 100 mile qualifier which was to take place two days before the main race on the Sunday.

In 1969, the NASCAR authorities decided to move the qualifying races to the previous Thursday and increased the qualifying distance from 100 miles to 125 miles. In 2005, this distance was again increased to 150 miles.

There has only ever been one year in the history of the Daytona 500 when the qualifying races had to be cancelled and that was in 1968, over forty years ago.

One would anticipate the winner of the qualifiers to win the major event, but this is not usually the case. In 1962, the renowned Fireball Roberts managed it and in 2004, so did Dale Earnhardt Jnr..

Nonetheless in the history of the Daytona 500, only eight drivers have had victory in both the qualifiers and the main event. The winner in the qualifiers has come second fourteen times, so if you want to gamble, that is a better bet.

Another interesting statistic is that only once have the first and second places in the Daytona 500 gone to the winners of the two qualifiers. That occurred in 1995 with Sterling Marlin and Dale Earnhardt. In fact, things have not often gone smoothly for the winners of the Daytona 500 qualifiers.

Thirty-eight qualifying winners have ended up in the thirty-first place or worse. The ultimate misery however went to Tony Stewart who is the only champion of a qualifying race in the history of Daytona 500 to have come in last in the actual Daytona 500 itself.

What Are Belly Fat Diets?

by Owen Jones on April 22, 2011

The method of getting rid of the unsightly and potentially dangerous fat deposit around the waist cannot be undertaken seriously without a suitable belly fat diet, because the process has to start with a good diet, if it is going to work. You need the right mental approach too, but it is not enough on its own.

You need to analyze your eating habits carefully, identify the good and bad foods that assist or impede the weight loss process and eliminate the bad ones. There are many options of belly fat diets available online and most of them stress the importance of sticking to a low-calorie routine.

Everyone knows these days that wholemeal, unprocessed or brown grains, seeds, certain vegetables, fruits, lean meat and fish should be the main components of any diet and it is the same for a belly fat diet too. Another useful strategy to use against that obstinate layer of fat around the waist is the use of good fats or oils in your cooking and the best examples here are olive oil, soy and flax oil as well as monounsaturated fats from avocado pears and seeds. Nutrients like these control the appetite, meaning that they moderate the pangs of hunger by producing a feeling of being full.

One advantage of a belly fat diet is that it produces great benefits for the whole digestive system, which means that constipation and bloating will be stopped, thereby allowing your body to purge itself of toxins. Toxins can also be flushed away more easily if you drink plenty of water, fruit juice and green tea for instance.

Furthermore, a good night’s sleep of approximately eight hour’s sleep, coupled with moderate physical exercise will promote the effectiveness of any belly fat diet that you may decide on.

Some of the belly fat diets offer suggestions for different breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snacks, so that the dieter does not have to count calories – a sort of pick-n-mix tactic. But it is far better to obtain lists of foodstuffs with portion sizes and their calorie count, so that you have enough flexibility to take pleasure in a wider variety of food.

It is not important for this article, which line of attack you want to take: high fibre, low carbohydrate, high protein, vegetarian, or fruit only, it is always a good idea for you be aware of what you are putting on your table, because this will allow you to make a better identification of what works and what does not work for the elimination of belly fat in your own individual case.

The main goal of any belly fat diet is to burn more calories than you consume. If you do not achieve this, no positive results will appear even after all the dietary changes you have implemented.

Whether you decide to go for calorie control or you prefer to continue with a slightly adjusted form of your normal diet combined with more physical exercise, it is up to you, but you have to make certain that you steer clear of any dangers and excesses of any kind and try to take a mid-course approach to weight loss, so that you are able to enjoy your accomplishments in a healthy condition.

Owen Jones, the author of this piece, writes on many topics, but is currently involved with losing weight quickly. If you have an interest in losing weight, too, please go over to our website now at Why Can’t I Lose Weight?

Bass Fishing Basics

by Owen Jones on April 22, 2011

Fishing is a thinking person’s pursuit. No matter whether you fish for a hobby, as a sport or for a living, you have to be able to outfox the fish you are searching for. Not just that, but unlike most hunters, you cannot see your quarry. You have to work out where it is likely to be and what it is likely to do.

Anglers usually fish alone, so it is not remarkable that each angler has a few of his or own personal methods and preferences. This goes for any type of fishing, but it is particularly a fact of some fish. This mostly means the big and the clever (well, for fish) species. One of these clever varieties is the bass.

Bass fishing techniques vary with regard to several circumstances including temperature, season and type of water and coast line – whether you are fishing fresh or salt water.

If you are fishing for bass off a boat, then you are almost certainly fishing in deeper water, because bass swim in deeper water when it is cold, so make certain that you have all the safety gear and that you know how to use it. Furthermore, you must be aware of your country’s or state’s legal requirements.

For instance, if you take anglers out with you, you may have legal responsibilities or there might be seasons in which you may and may not fish. These very from region to area and have to do with spawning and maintaining the levels of stock.

Bass experts have their own techniques, as was mentioned above, but a lot of bass fishermen recommend fishing at night. This is not a bad notion as there is less likelihood of getting your line snagged up with others, particularly if you are fishing off a rock or the shore.

Fishing for bass at night is not a bad technique for other reasons as well. Although there are diverse kinds of bass, most of them are shy and wary, so if they feel that the water is over clear, they may make a decision to bottom feed. This is one of the areas where local knowledge and skill plays a big role.

Bass are wary predators and also a little lazy They prefer to hide themselves somewhere and wait for their victim to pass close by. Therefore, a rocky shoreline is ideal bass fishing territory in the summer months whilst the bass swim and hunt closer to the surface. In the winter, you will need to fish the bottom water where it is somewhat warmer.

Whilst bottom fishing, bass will be searching for small fish and sand worms, whereas in the summer they are feeding on the top and will not expect to find any worms. Then they will be looking for small fish and insects that have dropped into the water, like flies. Bass are meat eaters, so berries, seeds and bread should not be of much use, but hey, not all fish behave like the text books say that they ought to!

The thing to keep in mind is that local conditions matter and although fishing with a rod and line is necessarily a solitary and quiet sport, especially in fresh water, fishermen love to socialize afterwards and pass on their expertise. So, if you are having trouble with catching the fish you are looking for, join a local anglers’ club and mix with the experts.

If you are keen to learn bass fishing techniques and would like to find out more, please come along to our web site entitled Gone Fishing.
