Games: The Worst Ones Of 2011 So Far

by Joanna Fredricson on April 22, 2011

When it comes to the games that have been released so far in 2011, some of them have been fantastic. There have also been a few stinkers and we will be looking at these here.

Below are the winners so far of the worst games of 2011; however there is still almost three quarters of the year left for them to be knocked off their perch by even worse games -

Homefront

Homefront is a first person shooter that is available on the Xbox 360. What you have to question about this game is do we really need yet another first person shooter game? If you actually play this game for a few minutes you will come to the conclusion that the answer to this question is a resounding no.

This game offers absolutely nothing new and it is a very short game which is annoying. Even if there are more bad games released in 2011, I would expect this game to be near the top of the list of the worst games of 2011 when this list is compiled.

Two Worlds 2

Two Worlds II is a game for the PC and is a role playing game. The game developers have tried their best to improve game play in the game by adding new elements to it but at the end of the day, this is still not working. I found myself asking what was the point in even playing the game?

This game may escape being on the final list of terrible games in 2011 but it will be a close call. Game developers really do need to get something better than this released especially when it looks as though game sales are dropping.

Portal 2

Portal 2 is fresh on the market so the jury is still out, but this could be a real flop. This is a first person game and it mixes a lot of puzzles with action. Many of the early reviews of this game were quite good but things do not look great now.

It often happens that eagerly anticipated games find it harder to make their mark, and possibly the expectations are too high. It would not surprise me if this game made it on to the final list of the worst games released in 2011.

Gaming Computer Parts And How To Avoid Paying Too Much For Them

by Joanna Fredricson on April 16, 2011

There are some real advantages to building your own gaming computer and this can be a very rewarding experience as well. One thing that can spoil the sense of achievement is realising that you have spent a lot more on parts than you needed to.

The following are a few tips to help you avoid spending too much on spare parts for your gaming computer.

- A common reason why people pay too much for spare parts is that they haven’t taken the time to look at all their options. It is understandable that people want to get building their dream computer, but if you don’t do the required research you are highly likely to pay too much. By looking around at the various prices on offer, you are much more likely to get the best prices that you can.

- Because others have obviously walked this same path before you, it would make sense for you to find out about their experiences before you start your own project. You will find plenty of websites and online forums where people will be more than happy to share their knowledge about building gaming computers. They should also be able to offer advice on where to get the best and cheapest parts.

- Buying brand name parts for your computer is the best route to go down if you have the money. This means that you can be sure you are getting quality parts. But when it comes to parts for your computer you can find really good parts that are cheaper than the branded ones. The fact that some of these cheap parts are not great, means that you need to be very careful when choosing.

- Make sure you compare prices because as you will discover, some sellers charge more than others for the same parts.

What Are The Top Video Gaming Cards To Buy

by Joanna Fredricson on April 16, 2011

If you are currently looking for a video gaming card to improve the game play on your computer then you may be unsure about what to buy. There is so much choice available these days so it is no wonder that it can be difficult to know what to choose. The amount that you are prepared to spend on a car will have an effect on the type of card that you buy.

Below are a few of the best video gaming cards that can be bought today.

- One of the most reasonably priced options is the AMD Radeon HD 5770 and this card offers great graphics power for an average gamer. This card should be available for about 100. The best screen resolution to use with this card is 1680 x 1050 and the good thing about this card is that it will also provide multi screen scaling.

- Another card that is very reasonably priced and works very well is the 80 Nvidia GeForce GTS 450. The wonderful thing about this card is the fact that it does not require a lot of power yet it is ideal if you play a lot of games. It isn’t the most impressive card in the world but it does the job required of it.

- A more expensive option is the AMD Radeon HD 5850 although this card is much better than the previous two mentioned. The price of this video gaming card will probably be around 150. This is a card that is worth buying because the price has dropped so much; it would have cost you a lot more to buy a card like this a few years ago.

- If you have plenty of money to spend then the AMD Radeon HD 6990 is one to look for. Although you will have to spend around 550 on this card you will be thrilled with the superior power and technology that it provides.

Video Game Cards And How To Avoid Getting Ripped Off If You Buy Them Online

by Joanna Fredricson on April 15, 2011

If you intend to purchase a video game card online, you will want do all you can to avoid being ripped off. The biggest problem with buying from the internet these days is that there are a number of dodgy sellers out there and they are doing everything they can to rip people off. The cost of a video game card can be quite high so it would be really upsetting if you were ripped off after paying for one of these cards.

Here are just a few tips for how you can avoid being ripped off when buying a video game card online.

- The most common way of getting ripped off online is when you end up paying more than you should for certain items. However the only thing you have to do to avoid this from happening is to find out the prices in a number of places and compare them before you buy. A lot of people however, will do no research at all and that means that they pay far too much for whatever it is that they are buying.

- When it comes to online sellers, you should avoid the ones that you are not sure about; just don’t buy from them at all. If you are buying from a website such as eBay then it is much easier to judge how trustworthy a seller is because they will have comments from previous buyers as well as a rating that you can check. You need to use this information before you actually commit to buy so that you don’t end up with remorse; who else can you blame if things go wrong when you didn’t check things out before you bought. It might be wise to avoid sellers with no ratings.

- Avoid buying from any website that looks badly put together.

- Never give your credit card details unless you are certain that the information is going to be secure. There is usually a way to confirm this by looking at your browser there will usually be a locked lock.

Could I Actually Have A Career As A Game Tester

by Joanna Fredricson on April 13, 2011

There are many who will view game testing as not really a proper job. A job where you get paid to play games all day is something that a lot of people find hard to comprehend and they are not sure that there can be any future at all in this kind of job. But these are the opinions of people who really don’t know much about the gaming industry at all. They really cannot understand that not only is game testing something that you can have a career as but as well as that, it is something that could earn you quite a bit of money.

Game Testing And How It Is Possible For This To Be A Career

The following are just a few reasons why game testing can be a great career-

- If you look at gaming over the last few decades it is easy to see how popular it has become and how this is a trend that is set to continue for quite some time. As long as gaming remains popular and people want to play games, game testers are going to be required by the game developers.

- If a game tester is good, then they will be highly skilled and this is something that is in huge demand. These are people who not only know how to test games but also how to document their findings in technical reports. There is a lot more to game testing than just playing games.

- Game developers must be prepared to spend money on quality control because if they don’t they could stand to lose quite a bit of money: the gaming industry is worth millions after all. Game testing is a fundamental part of quality control.

- The game testing jobs will usually be given to those game testers who have worked to build up a good reputation. Once you have managed to get your name well known you can more or less have your pick of the jobs. Only those starting out as a game tester will find it difficult to come by work.

CGR Undertow – WII SPORTS for Nintendo Wii Video Game Review

by Mike Tants on March 28, 2011

Classic Game Room presents a CGR Undertow review of Wii Sports from Nintendo for the Nintendo Wii. Wii Sports is simply a compilation of five sports games — tennis, bowling, baseball, boxing and golf. None of the games are very deep, and they don’t have a whole lot of the bells and whistles you’d expect from such a decidedly multiplayer-focused package. But as the industry’s oldest classics have proven, it isn’t about how many modes or features a game has. It’s about the core gameplay experience, and in that regard, Wii Sports is an absolute triumph. This video review features video gameplay footage of Wii Sports for the Nintendo Wii and audio commentary from Classic Game Room’s Derek.
