Ju-on The Grudge: The ghosts of a violently killed mom and her child vengefully terrorize and murder a succession of individuals who have a connection with the humble Tokyo home where the murders took place. Not a tale as such, rather a succession of eerie scenes, some quietly scary, others outright horrifying. Ironweed: William Kennedy adjusted his Pulitzer Prize novel in reference to road individuals, set in Albany, N.Y., 1938. Nicholson plays a guy trying to come to terms with the life he turned his back on years ago. Streep is his longtime friend who, like him, can’t stay off the bottle for long. Cast includes Jack Nicholson, Meryl Streep, Carroll Baker, Michael O’Keefe, Diane Venora, Fred Gwynne, Margaret Whitton, Tom Delays, Jake Dengel, Nathan’ Aisle, James Gammon, Joe Grifasi, Bethel Leslie, Ted Levine, and Frank Whaley. (144 minutes, 1987)

Say One for Me: Bing plays a Broadway pastor who gets mixed up with a chorus girl (Debbie) and a Television charity show. This film is horribly contrived with no memorable music. Cast includes Debbie Reynolds, Bing Crosby, Robert Wagner, Ray Walston, Les Tremayne, Connie Gilchrist, StelIa Stevens, Frank McHugh, Joe Besser, and Sebastian Cabot. (119 minutes, 1959)

Airport: Airport is an ultra slick, old-styled film that amuses regardless of itself, detailing a chaotic fall day at a metropolitan airport. Cast includes Burt Lancaster, Dean Martin, George Kennedy, Helen Hayes, Jean Seberg, Jacqueline Bisset, Van Heflin, Maureen Stapleton, Barry Nelson, Dana Wynter, Lloyd Nolan, Barbara Hale, and Gary Collins. (137 minutes, 1970)

Crusoe: An intense rendition of the oft-filmed Defoe classic, with Quinn cast as the title personality, a slave dealer who’s shipwrecked on a deserted isle, where he must handle loneliness, seclusion, survival. The most captivating of all is his growing relation with black combatant Sapara. Cast includes Aidan Quinn, Ade Sapara, Warren Clark, Hepburn Grahame, Jimmy Nail, Tim Spall, Michael Higgins, Shane Rimmer, and Oliver Platt. (91 minutes, 1988)

Slattery’s Hurricane: Weather reporter Widmark, in midst of storm, looks back on his life. Damell and Pool are the two women he has loved. Cast includes Richard Widmark, Linda Damell, Veronica Pool, John Russell, and Gary Merrill. (83 minutes, 1949)

Sudden Fear: A new twist about a boy who cried wolf too often. A prankish kid witnesses the murder of a visiting dignitary. The problem is that no one will believe him. Cast includes Lionel Jeffues, Susan George, Tony Bonner, and Jeremy Kemp. (95 minutes, 1970)

Choices: A somewhat deaf adolescent Carafotes becomes disillusioned when he is stopped from playing football due to his hearing problems. Well intentioned although evident drama is helped by a fine set of acting jobs. Cast includes Paul Carafotes, Victor French, Lelia Goldoni, Dennis Patrick, Demi Moore, Billy Moses, and Pat Buttram. (90 minutes, 1981)

The Great Moment: This perplexing biography of an anesthesia pioneer wavers from comedy to drama. The film is uselessly filled with aggravating flashbacks. Cast includes Joel McCrea, Harry Carey, William Demarest, Franklin Pangborn, Gmdy Sullon, and Louis Jean Heydt. (83 minutes, 1944)
