Requirements to Become A Video Game Tester

by John Abraham on October 9, 2009

If you are planning to start your career as a video game tester, you should first know whether you meet all the requirements for the job or not. If you are suitable for the job, you can be paid to test the games. Read on more to find out.

The age of a game tester should be 18 years or more. Most gaming companies require the candidates to be 18 years or older in age. But you may still be able to find a company that can offer you a job even if you are less than 18 years old.

Gaming companies prefer those gamers that have experience in playing or testing all types of games. If you can play any game and are experienced enough, you should tell them about your abilities and experience.

To get a game testing assignment, you need either a gaming console or a high-end PC. You may not get a home testing opportunity if you do not have either a console or a high end PC because the companies will not think of you as a gamer.

If you want to test games on your PC, it should have the latest hardware. Some games run using the latest graphic cards and sound systems. You should also have a good processor and a big enough RAM. Only then you can expect to get an assignment for a high end PC game.

You should also maintain a good resume for the video game testing job. You should be able to show your earlier experiences. You will have greater chances of getting more assignments if you have good experience in doing game testing assignments before.

Even if you do not meet the requirements listed above, you should still not lose hope of getting paid for testing games. Companies can still hire you if you are skilled enough but do not meet some requirements like experience or age.

So you have to make a nice resume and find out where to apply to get game testing jobs. Then do and wait for the home testing assignments to start rolling in.
