This video game generally and primarily revolves around a first person shooting scenario. The protagonist is affiliated with the United Nations Space Command (UNSC). The UNSC is an organization known for its elite human soldier members.

A Covenant took place and was followed by an attack of an alliance of alien races on Earth. The specific target was the New Mombasa area. The player has to search for his or her missing teammates through an exploration of this area. Because they need to do different quests, the teammates in the game will have to go separate ways.

The similarity between the Halo 3: ODST and other previous Halo versions may no longer be invisible to most people. The health of the player can be restored by utilizing medpacks that can be found in different locations all over the area. Thus, the player must look for these medpacks for health reasons.
